Work created between 2005-2009

These pieces were some of the original "structures" I created with "Red sign with a peep " being the first. As I began pushing the painted surface, with the scratching, scraping, building-up and tearing-down the board I was working on proved too little or too weak to do what I was wanting and so they moved into the proto-sculptural realm. Resembling true architectural remnants with the addition of pipes and electrical elements giving the work an amputated functional element in addition to the cropped surfaces. However moving in this direction made them also incredibly heavy, "Section #4" is easily 125lbs.  This limitation forced me to search out ways to make the work with lighter materials. In the new work I have developed a way to make things look heavy while being a reasonable weight. You can see those HERE
